YouTube for Android 4.0 brings new tablet interface, offline playback to ICS-based devices

Among the quieter announcements today was an update to YouTube for Android that revamped its tablet interface and brought offline downloads to the service.

The former was greatly needed, as the Nexus 7 is a perfect content consuming device; the latter is a nice bonus. YouTube downloads either shows that it think you’ll want to watch offline, based on your previous browsing habits or, if you tell it to, will just download any and all clips saved in your ‘Watch Later’ list. The preloading can be done over WiFi or, when charging, over 3G.

These features are only available to devices running Android 4.0+, but they’re pretty impressive nonetheless.

If you’re running a newer device, head to Google Play to download the new YouTube 4.0 with offline playback.
