Update: Sony confirms the Xperia ion is coming to Canada, will be released this month

A couple weeks ago we let you know that the Sony Xperia ion was going to launch in Canada this Summer. Today, Sony made this official. In a press release they noted that we can expect this to be “be available through various Canadian wireless carriers and authorized national retailers” at the beginning of July.

Since this is an LTE-enabled device – and Sony’s first LTE device – you can possibly expect this to show up Rogers, Bell and TELUS, plus at the Sony Store and other big box locations. The price was not revealed, but Sony did say that it’ll ship with OS 2.3 Gingerbread, then it’s on a path to be upgraded to 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

Notable specs of the ion have it coming with a 4.6-inch HD Reality display (resolution of 1280 x 720), 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 12MP camera that captures 1080p HD video, 720p front-facing camera, HDMI, DLNA, 1900 mAh battery, 16GB internal memory (expands up to 32GB) and they’ve also bundled Box into the mix and giving users 50GB of free storage, but you’ll have to sign up before December 31st.

Update: Rogers sent us a note this morning stating “Just a quick note to confirm that Rogers will be carrying this device.” Still no word on price point.
