Rogers Q2 2012: Wireless subscriber base reaches 9.351 million, revenue increases 1%


Rogers Q2 2012 financial results were released today and Canada’s largest wireless carrier reported that they experienced “one of the highest numbers of smartphone activations in any quarter in Rogers’ history.” Rogers noted that they activated and upgraded approximately 629,000 smartphones, mostly iPhone, BlackBerry and Android devices, this was up from 591,000 compared to last year. Total Postpaid subscribers reached 7.708 million, while Prepaid hit 1.643 million (dropping 43,000 from last year) and the combined subscriber base now sits at 9.351 million. Blended ARPU (Average Revenue Per User) was $59.10, again representing a drop of $1.16 from the same period in 2011. Surprisingly the number of minutes per user increased to 491 from 475 in Q2 2011. Wireless revenue increased by 1% to $1,652, but data revenue increased by 13% to $649 million. Data now represents “approximately 39% of total network revenue.”

Nadir Mohamed, President and CEO of Rogers said “Despite highly competitive markets, we continued to leverage our technology leadership to deliver new and innovative products and services while at the same time taking decisive actions to drive operational efficiencies.”
