Songza launches music “concierge” app for Android tablets

Songza, the music concierge app that provides you with playlists depending on your mood, is launching for Android tablets in Canada and the United States. Songza launched in Canada one week ago and rocketed to the top of the iOS music charts for iPad and iPhone and is currently the top free app for iPhone.

This kind of app is perfect for the big-screen tablet experience, and the launch of the Android tablet app follows a hugely successful iPad launch earlier this year, with over one million installs in June alone.

The service is pretty simple: you cannot choose the songs you listen to, which allows Songza to get around paying exorbitant licensing fees. Instead, users curate playlists, much like 8tracks, and enter them into certain categories. The app initially asks you how you’re feeling, or what you’re doing: are you cycling, running, reading, feeling happy, sad, energetic? You can also select playlists depending on the time of day. It’s trying to answer the question, “What should I listen to now?”

Songza for Android tablets is optimized for Jelly Bean with lockscreen shortcuts, rich notification support and external headset controls.

If you’re rocking an Android tablet, especially a Nexus 7 running Jelly Bean, check out Songza.
