Sony Mobile to cut 1,000 jobs, moving headquarters to Tokyo

Another mobile manufacturer is cutting staff. We’ve seen Motorola and RIM recently make layoff announcements, now Sony is joining the group in an effort to “increase operational efficiency, reduce costs and drive profitable growth.” In a press release today they declared that 1,000 jobs will be slashed, which represents 15% of their global workforce. The cuts will be start this year and go until March 2014. Many of the 1,000 will be coming from Sweeden, previous home of Sony Ericsson, as they also announced plans to move their head office to Tokyo. No indiction of Canadian jobs at risk.
