Google purchases creator of popular iOS photo editor Snapseed to improve Google+ photo experience

Google has announced a purchase agreement for Nik Software, the creators of popular iOS app Snapseed. While the app has yet to arrive on Android, it seems that Google’s plans for the company extend beyond the mobile space and into its Google+ network.

Financial terms are not yet available for the acquisition, but Nik Software dabbles in desktop applications too with plugins for popular apps such as Lightroom. The company has been around since 1995 with a motto of  putting “photography first.” Google+ has been adopted by many as the best place for sharing photography in an open sphere — though 500px and Flickr would argue otherwise — and Nik seems like a good fit for the brand.

Whether the acquisition means that development of the excellent iPhone and iPad apps will cease, or if there will be an increased focus on Android and the mobile web, remains to be seen, but we’re sure Google won’t let the brand flounder.
