Nokia confirms Canadian carrier-sold Symbian devices will not receive update to Belle

We’ve received word directly from the source that Nokia will not update any Canadian carrier-sold Symbian devices to Belle. This comes in contrast to unlocked and international versions which are in the process of being upgraded to Belle.

These models include the Rogers Nokia N8, Rogers/Fido Nokia X7, Wind Mobile Nokia C7, and the Bell and Fido Nokia C6. According to our tipster, he received an email from Nokia’s Careline detailing lack of customer demand as a key reason.

Thank you for emailing the Nokia Careline.

In response to your concern, we understand that you want to update your Nokia N8-00 to Nokia Belle software. We would like to verify if your phone was purchased through a Canadian carrier. We would like to inform you that all non-carrier variants of Nokia C6-01, C7-00, E7-00 and N8-00 devices can be upgraded to Nokia Belle.

However, please be reminded that all the said Nokia devices, including the Nokia X7-00, which are purchased through Canadian carrier channels will not be upgraded to Nokia Belle.

We are hoping for your understanding and we appreciate your patience and cooperation regarding this matter.

If you have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to contact us again. To ensure proper handling of your case, kindly continue using the current subject line.

You may check out all the phones and accessories at www.nokia.ca. For further inquiries, please call us at 1-888-226-6542 and we will definitely be of assistance in finding the product for you.

Thank you for your e-mail.

So that’s that. Nokia would prefer you, obviously, to update to one of their Lumia devices, but if you’re intent on staying with Symbian, you’ll want to purchase an unlocked international version to receive the Belle upgrade.

(Thanks tipster!)
