LG nets small profit in Q3 on higher sales of LTE smartphones

LG had a decent third quarter by its own admission. Not great, not bad.

Overall the company eeked out a $139 million net profit on sales of $10.1 billion. All numbers USD. The company’s mobile division was stronger than the previous quarter, pumping out an operating profit of $19.4 million on sales of $2.16 billion, up 5% from the previous quarter.

LG boasted shipments of 14 million handsets, putting it well out of the range of Samsung, Apple and even Nokia, but still a decent figure for the company. It claimed that its L-series devices, which are premium-looking Android devices with middling specs and low costs, did well around the world. The 14 million number was an increase of 9% over the previous quarter, so LG is certainly doing something right.

The company expects excellent Q4 results on healthy sales of its Optimus G smartphone and the upcoming Vu 2 in Korea.
