Otterbox buys Wrapsol to corner the gadget accessory market

It seems that these days the phone accessory market is as active as that of the phones themselves. One of the primiere names in the space is Otterbox, which we’ve covered many times before. Famous for its high-quality protective Commuter and Defender cases, it recently expanded into slimmer profiles and waterproof designs.

Now, Otterbox has announced it has purchased Wrapsol, a device wrapping company that specializes in keeping “naked” gadgets protected. Unlike products from Zagg and BestSkinsEver, Wrapsol skins are applied dry, so there are no soap bubbles and water droplets caught under the screen. It offers a number of specialized products for many devices, including the iPhone, iPad and many Android phones and tablets.

Conditions of the acquisition were not provided, but Otterbox claims that it is one of the fastest-growing companies in America, and judging from its presence at CES last year we believe it.
