Kobo’s 7-inch Android-powered Arc tablet now available in Canada

Kobo has officially shed the past of their original Android-based Vox tablet and released the Arc. This will directly compete against the other 7-inch tablets on the market – Nexus 7, iPad mini and PlayBook – and they’ve priced it accordingly. Three models are available: 16, 32, and 64GB versions in both black and white and can be yours for $199.99, $249.99 and $299.99.

The Arc runs OS 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich and will be upgraded to OS 4.1 Jelly Bean at some point in time. They’ve also skinned the UI at bit and added “Tapestries,” which basically allows you to “pin” content that is interests to you – such as books, web, magazines – to your homescreen for quick access. Since Kobo is heavy into books they are positioning the Arc as a joint tablet and eReader. The display is 7-inches and has a resolution of 1200×800, comes with a 1.5GHz TI OMAP 4470 dual-core processor, weighs 364 grams and is only 12.4mm thin.

The Arc is on sale now at Indigo stores. Check out a quick overview of the Arc here
