Sonos has unleashed quite an impressive update to its iOS app today, allowing iPhone or iPad users to stream their iTunes library to any Sonos speaker directly. Previously, the app was limited to specific sources such as your computer’s iTunes library or streaming services like Deezer, Rdio, Slacker and others. Being able to stream on-device content directly to your Sonos:3 or Sonos:5 speakers puts the company in direct competition with Apple’s AirPlay solution, which allows users to do the same thing through an AirPort Extreme/Express router or an Apple TV.
Sonos is one of those investments that, while expensive, completely changes the way you listen to music in the home. It’s seamless, high-quality and app-friendly.
