Sony courts Android developers by releasing beta Flash Tool, returns Xperia devices to stock

Sony is continuing to build on its pro-developer reputation by releasing its own Flash Tool. This allows users to flash stock ROMs, returning their devices back to factory settings, at any time and from any state. While the tool is limited to those with unlocked bootloaders, Sony is trying to take control over a developer community that has, until now, been using its rather crudely-built (and illegal) ROM flashing tools.

Sony’s Flash Tool goes one step further than the existing one by downloading your phone’s stock ROM from its servers and flashing it to your phone, all in one clean move. Even though it doesn’t facilitate flashing of custom ROMs, the new beta application promises to get ROM users out of trouble should they hit a snag… or two.
