Apple releases iOS 6.1 beta 4 to developers

iOS 6.1 is coming soon, and Apple has been pretty good about releasing beta software to its developer partners on a regular basis.

The latest version comes two weeks after Beta 3, and comes in at a heft 105MB delta. No word on what has been added — all developers are under NDA and cannot divulge specific changes to beta versions — but we’d imagine it’s more nipping and tucking as the company gets ready to release iOS 6.1 to the public.

We’re fairly certain that iOS 6.1 will bring a more robust Maps API for developers to integrate Apple’s divisive location software into third-party apps. This comes less than a week after Google released its own iOS Maps app along with a software developer kit allowing developers to do the same thing.

If you’re an iOS developer running a current beta, head over to Settings/General/Software Update to get things moving; if you haven’t yet installed the beta, head to Apple’s Developer Portal for more details.
