Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 gains upgrade to Android 4.2 via CyanogenMOD nightly build

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 was considered the Android tablet to get in mid-2011; how different things were back then.

Today, the device is discontinued, replaced by the similar-yet-different Galaxy Tab 2 (10.1). And while the original has been officially updated to Ice Cream Sandwich, it’s never going to rise beyond Android 4.0.4 by official methods.

The team behind CyanogenMOD has rolled out nightly builds of Android 4.2.1 Jelly Bean for the Galaxy Tab 10.1 and 10.1 4G (GT-P7510 and GT-P7500 respectively), and while there are still some kinks to work out, including a faulty default keyboard and some video artifacting, it’s the real deal. Performance is said to be good on the dual-core 1Ghz chip, though you can’t expect the same results as a modern tablet.

The team recommends that you update your Galaxy Tab 10.1 to stock ICS before delving into flashing this Jelly Bean ROM, to ensure that you have the correct bootloaders.
