Sony clears up Canadian Xperia Z availability (it’s probably not coming)

During a Twitter Q&A yesterday, Sharath Muddaiah, Marketing Manager for the Xperia line, tweeted that both the Sony Xperia Z and ZL will be coming to our fair country, but gave no details as to when, on what carriers, or why.

This goes against initial claims that just the ZL would be released in Canada, so we reached out to Sony for clarification. Apparently Muddaiah was “quite excited” about the handsets and was mistaken in his knowledge of Canadian availability. Sony says that nothing has changed at this point; the Xperia ZL, with LTE support and a beautiful 5-inch 1080p display, will come to multiple carriers, though when and which ones will remain a mystery for a little bit longer.

In an email to us Sony Canada said “Everyone is really excited about the week we’ve had at CES. A global representative made an error regarding Canadian product availability. At this time we can confirm that Canadians will be receiving the Xperia ZL as previously announced, but we have nothing to announce about the Xperia Z availability in Canada at this time. We will share more news on future products as they are confirmed.”

You can check out our hands-on with the Xperia ZL from CES 2013 if you haven’t seen it already. We also compare the two devices.
