Samsung exec confirms 8-inch Galaxy Note for Mobile World Congress

It’s just over a month until Mobile World Congress, where companies like HTC, Samsung, LG and more are expected to make smartphone and tablet announcements to take them into Q2 and beyond.

It’s long been rumoured that, like its original Galaxy Tab line, Samsung will draw down its tablet size to fit all markets and demographics. The Galaxy Note II inched up to 5.5-inches and the Galaxy Note 10.1 filled in the full-size demand, but the Korean company is betting some users want something in the middle.

Presuming Samsung tested a 7-inch Note and found it encroached on the upcoming Galaxy Note III (which is rumoured to be 6.3-inches) it chose to build an 8-inch Galaxy Note, which will be slightly larger than the 7.9-inch iPad mini.

Rumoured specs tell a familiar story: 1280×800 TFT display, 2GB RAM, 16-32GB internal storage, a 5MP back camera, 4600mAh battery, S Pen, Android 4.1 (or 4.2, we’ll see).

The company’s head of mobile, JK Shin, has reportedly confirmed the existence of the 8-inch tablet to a Korean newspaper; the only thing left for us to do is wait until it is announced. That is, unless someone leaks a photo of it beforehand.
