This Android app lets you receive push notifications from any third-party Twitter client

There’s a new app in town that will bring push notifications to almost any third-party Twitter app on Android. It does this by taking advantage of Twitter’s SMS push service, which allows anyone in Canada to receive new mentions, DMs, new followers, retweets and favourites in the form of a text message.

Tweetification is a brilliant new service that intercepts this SMS stream and converts it into an actionable Android notification, which then opens the relevant third-party app. For popular solutions like Plume and Falcon Pro, this is the next best thing to full-0n push notifications from the official Twitter app.

Tweetification does require some setup. You must activate Twitter text messaging functionality by logging onto the network’s webpage and texting the word ‘GO’ to 21212.

Then, you must enter the Tweetification app itself and log the number 21212 in the Incoming Number row. Then select your Twitter app and you’re good to go.

Not a great deal of depth to the app, but it does one thing and does it well, and allows you to use Android’s flexibility to your advantage while circumventing one of the main issues people come across in third-party Twitter clients: lack of push notifications.
