As expected, today Nokia announced the Nokia Lumia 720 and Lumia 520, a mid-range and entry-level Windows Phone 8 device respectively.
The 720 is clearly the belle of the ball here, with a unibody polycarbonate design that resembles the Windows Phone 8X in some ways. Its sides have soft curves and its front clean lines, a 4.3-inch WVGA display, a 1Ghz dual-core Snapdragon S4 Plus SoC, 512MB RAM, 8GB internal storage with a microSD slot, a 6.7MP rear camera, 1.3MP wide-angle front camera and a non-removable battery. It weighs a scant 128g and measures 9mm thin, significantly lighter and thinner than the 820 and 920.
It supports wireless charging, though the functionality is not built in; you must purchase a separate accessory to enable it. The global price of the Lumia 720 is around $329, but if it comes to Canada you can expect it to be around $350. No word on whether it’s coming, or when.
The Lumia 520 is definitely the runt of the litter, but it’s certainly not unattractive. With a 4-inch WVGA display and similar specs to the Lumia 720, the device sports a 5MP rear camera and a microSD slot for expandable storage.
It won’t win any design awards, but priced at around $189 it looks to be a steal for entry-level smartphone enthusiasts. No word on whether the Lumia 520 is coming to Canada, but we’d see it sitting comfortably on WIND’s or Mobilicity’s shelves.
