Nimbuzz updated to support Windows Phone 8 live tiles, claims 150 million users

Nimbuzz, one of the most popular chat consolidator apps across multiple platforms, has updated its Windows Phone app today with support for wide live tiles and fast resume.

The company was one of the earliest to release a Windows Phone app, but it has stayed underdeveloped and a poor performer. Taking advantage of WP8’s double-wide live tile feature will allow it to gain more prominence on users’ home screens, which is a key differentiator for Microsoft’s mobile platform. Nimbuzz also previously didn’t tap into Windows Phone’s native autocorrect functionality, so typing messages to your friends and family over Google Talk, Facebook Messenger and other services were slow and frustrating.

This update includes those features as well as fast resume, which should prevent the app from restarting when tapping on the live tile.

Nimbuzz supports the three major IM networks, Facebook, Google Chat, Yahoo, in addition to allowing members to send free texts to one another over the data network. The company recently boasted a user base of 150 million as it battles new entrants to the market like Kakao and Line.
