Samsung releases Galaxy S4 source code for Canadian variant, should help developers with custom ROM building

The Galaxy S4 is coming soon. This device has a lot of power and a big, bright 5-inch screen, but Samsung’s biggest liability for some users continues to be its TouchWIZ software. Thankfully, the company is fairly open to developers tinkering with its software and has promptly released the source code for the SGH-i337M — the model number for the Canadian version — for perusal.

It should come as no surprise that the folks at CyanogenMOD and AOKP are chomping at the bit to dig into the GS4. While there are two variants available, the octa-core Exynos and quad-core Snapdragon, the latter should be more amenable to accepting hacked and custom ROMs, as Qualcomm is better about releasing drivers and libraries than Samsung.

The release of the Galaxy S4 source code should mean that, at the very least, there will be a couple modified ROMs available at launch. We’ll have more on the phone in the coming days, so stay tuned.
