Foursquare for Windows Phone 8 redesigned with the help of Microsoft and Nokia

Foursquare has had a pretty good Windows Phone app for a long time, but there was always room for improvement. The company has been iterating its iOS, Android and BlackBerry 10 apps fairly regularly, but today it is launching a completely redesigned app specifically for Windows Phone 8.

Designed with higher-resolution screens in mind, the app does away with the traditional blue palette in favour of a clean white and grey flavour. Because Foursquare worked with Microsoft and Nokia on the app (it will be preloaded on upcoming Lumia devices), it adheres pretty closely to the Metro model that we’ve come to admire so much in the app design world. It also comes with NFC checkins for businesses that support it.

Nokia’s City Lens app will also integrate Foursquare data with its high-end devices, allowing for a more immersive and accurate augmented reality experience.

Foursquare mentions that many of these features, excluding the Windows Phone 8-specific ones like lockscreen notifications and double-wide tiles, will be coming to WP7 in the near future.
