Area code 236 is now live in British Columbia

Residents and businesses of British Columbia! Today is June 1st and this means that area code 236 is now live, becoming the fourth in the province. This combination of numbers now joins 604, 778 and 250.

According to the press release the reason for implementing the new code was “in response to the increasing demand for phone numbers in B.C., which will result in some communities running out of numbers within the existing area codes in the near future. The new code will ensure that there will continue to be enough numbers to meet the demand.”

236 has a nice ring to it.
