BlackBerry cuts another 100 jobs in Waterloo

Another unfortunate round of job cuts hit BlackBerry on Monday.

New reports coming out of Waterloo-based news station 570News confirms that BlackBerry has cut 100 jobs in the area. This is in addition to the recent 250 employees that were laid off last month. The report indicated that “BlackBerry confirms to us close to 100 local jobs were cut on Monday. It follows 250 in late July.”

“Our evolution as a company is ongoing and is in no way easy”

Rebecca Freiburger, company spokesperson, stated “as previously stated, we are in the second phase of our transformation plan. As such, this week’s employee reductions, demonstrates another step forward to scale our company correctly for new opportunities in mobile computing. Our evolution as a company is ongoing and is in no way easy, but we are realistic about what is required to move our transformation forward in a timely manner. We will be as transparent as possible as our plans evolve.”

BlackBerry recently announced plans to “explore strategic alternatives” that could lead towards a “possible joint ventures, strategic partnerships or alliances, a sale of the Company or other possible transactions.”
