Google acquires Bump

Bump – the app that allows users to transfer files over the web by ‘bumping’ two devices together – has been acquired by Google. The finer details of the transaction was not divulged, but early estimates are that it came close to $30 million. This deal also includes its photo sharing app ‘Flock.’

According to Bump’s website, David Lieb, CEO and cofounder, stated that “We strive to create experiences that feel like magic, enabled behind the scene with innovations in math, data processing, and algorithms. So we couldn’t be more thrilled to join Google, a company that shares our belief that the application of computing to difficult problems can fundamentally change the way that we interact with one another and the world.”

Bump started in 2008 and there’s no imminent changes to the company or the app, but both “will continue to work as they always have for now.” The apps are currently available on both the iPhone or Android devices.
