LG unveils 6-inch G Flex smartphone with a top-to-bottom curved display

LG has officially unveiled its oft-rumoured curved G Flex smartphone. The 6-inch handset was leaked online a few times and the company states that this is its “first curved smartphone.”

The G Flex comes with a 6-inch 720p OLED display, with the curve aligning vertically, from top to bottom, not left to right like Samsung’s Galaxy Round. LG notes that the curved display, and the positioning of the earpiece and microphone, make for a “richer” sound.

In addition, the LTE-enabled G Flex runs Android OS 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, sports a 2.26GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB of RAM, a 13MP camera and a 2.1MP front-facing camera, plus a curved 3,500 mAh battery. Overall dimensions are 160.5 x 81.6mm and ranges from 7.9 to 8.7mm in thickness depending on the curve. Present on the G Flex are the rear control buttons that first appeared on the G2.

The G Flex also offers a number of other unique features. Most notable is the “Swing Lockscreen” that actually sees the lockscreen move to the direction of the curve. In addition, Dual Window seems to be like Samsung’s Multi-Window feature, plus there’s also a unique “self-healing” technology that LG claims can remove light scratches on the back cover within minutes. LG compares this to the movie Wolverine where he’s able to self heal after being wounded.
