Lytro update adds 3D display support

Lytro’s unique light field camera is getting that 3D update we heard about last year. Lytro is a tiny, handheld camera that allows users to focus their photos after the fact. Last October, Lytro promised 3D display support and 12 months later, it’s finally delivering.

The software update is dubbed Lytro 3D and is available for the iOS app, Lytro Mobile, as well as the Mac OS X and Windows desktop apps. Of course, you’ll need a 3D-capable TV or monitor to do view your Perspective Shift photos in 3D, but the update is proof that Lytro is alive and well, even though things have been quiet from the company as of late.

Lytro launched in Canada a year ago via Future Shop ($399) and is still only available in select locations. However, the company announced today that the camera is now available around the world at Apple.com. Apple has the exclusive on the cobalt blue model and a limited edition champagne model for the USA and Canada.
