Earlier today BlackBerry’s new CEO wrote a note on their company blog and stated they are “ready for a challenge” and will “reclaim BlackBerry’s success.” The company is still in the midst of a transition and just closed on a $1 billion investment from Fairfax Financial and other companies, which should give them a bit more time to focus their attention on capturing the enterprise market.

Apart from cutting thousands of employees, it also seems that BlackBerry will be axing one of their more popular developer events. According to an email sent out to devs, BlackBerry has decided to cancel BlackBerry Jam Europe 2014, specifically noting that they’re “taking some time to reevaluate our current events strategy.”

BlackBerry Jam Europe was supposed to take place on January 14 & 15th in Barcelona. The Waterloo-based company has also updated their site to say “We will continue to engage with our developers in more focused ways, designed with a greater emphasis on the opportunities we have to talk to our developers about what matters most to you.”

This is not the biggest step back as the main dev show has always been BlackBerry World in Orlando. However, one less event is one less opportunity to promote new products and services. BlackBerry did promise to keep those interested in building apps for BB10 up-to-date with any “new events” or when “BlackBerry activities become available.”
