RBC iPad app now allows e-Transfers to your Facebook Messenger contacts

RBC has teamed up with Facebook to become the first financial institution in North America to allow e-Transfers directly to your Facebook Messenger contacts.

RBC said their goal was to make it easier for their customers — who are apparently ‘avid Facebook users’ — to “bank in the manner in which they interact on a daily basis.” According to the press release, RBC worked closely with Facebook to “enhanced its app” in the mobile commerce space.

The cost of an e-Transfer is $1 for personal customers, or $1.50 for small business customers. However, RBC states they’ll be donating $1 for every Interac e-Transfer via Facebook Messenger to the Kids Help Phone (up to $100,000).

Currently this feature is only available on RBC’s iPad app, but will be coming to the iPhone in February 2014, then other platforms “later in the year.”

Update: We reached out to RBC about the additional platforms. Next up will be Android, but no word this feature coming to BlackBerry or Windows Phone. Linda Mantia, executive vice-president, Cards & Payments Solutions at RBC, stated that “We are planning on offering this on other Apple devices and popular platforms such as Android. We are committed to delivering services that our clients highly value and we look to keep on enhancing our mobile offering. Please stay tuned.”
