Toronto-based Bitstrips receives a $3 million investment to make its comic book app ‘the best experience it can be’

Toronto-based Bitstrips found themselves in a position of which many software developers dream. The company saw incredible demand for their Facebook app, a comic strip that stars “you and your friends.” Bitstrips recently launched mobile apps for iPhone, iPad and Android devices, which also saw millions of people flock to download, tallying up over 30 million avatars created in 2-months.

In true Bitstrips fashion, the company announced via a comic strip a $3 million funding investment from Hong Kong-based Horizon Ventures. Jacob Blackstock, Bitstrips’ CEO, stated, “Horizons has a global perspective and an amazing track record of high-profile investments. Not only do they have a deep understanding of the technology business, they have a real appreciation of creativity and share our vision for what Bitstrips can become. We’re honoured and excited to have them as partners.”

The company currently has 17 employees and plans to hire more engineers. In addition, in the coming weeks the company will debut some “awesome new features” that will “make Bitstrips the best experience it can be.”

It’s nice to see a Canadian company doing so well in the crowded app marketplace.
