500px for Android adds support for Sets and activates Immersive Mode on KitKat

The quickly-growing Toronto photography startup, 500px, has released an updated Android app today, adding support for its popular Sets feature as well as activating Immersive Mode for users running KitKat.

The first feature is important because Sets are becoming an increasingly-significant aspect of 500px’s business model, as they are available only to Plus users who spend $25 per year on a subscription, and Awesome users who shell out $75 per year on extra features like personalized portfolios and unique subdomains.

500px’s Android browser, though it arrived after its iOS counterpart, has iterated quickly to reach feature and performance parity. New in this version is Immersive Mode for fullscreen photo viewing for users running Android 4.4 and higher. A great way to view individual photos or a slideshow, support for Immersive Mode is a fantastic addition to the app.

And, as with all good app updates, 500px for Android runs faster and loads quicker than it did before. If you’re looking to browse through some astoundingly good photographs, I cannot recommend this app highly enough. For an added bonus, download Chainfire’s 500 Firepaper to use random 500px photos as your wallpaper.
