Hidden within the press release of BlackBerry’s Q3 results, today, lurks a minor bright spot. The company announced that they’ve seen 40 million BBM downloads on iOS and Android in the last 60 days.

When the popular messaging app was released late October they saw a massive uptake of 10 million within 24 hours, then reported the 20 million download milestone a few days later. BlackBerry also teased some new features coming to BBM for iPhone and Android yesterday, specifically BBM Voice, video calling and BBM Channels.

In addition, BlackBerry also declared that “over 250,000 BBM Channels” have been made. This is their new “social engagement platform” and a potential source of revenue, which reportedly has seen advertisers such as Coke Indonesia and USA Today flock to the service. BlackBerry’s interim CEO, John Chen, stated that the company is looking to find considerable revenue in the BBM division by fiscal 2016 and that there are now over 80 million BBM users worldwide.
