Nymi app contest inspires the Anti-Fitbit, Smarter Home and an Iron Man Assistant

One of the most anticipated wearable devices coming this year is the Nymi. This authentication bracelet aims to replace passwords and unlock any smart device with the beat of your heart. To prove its potential, Bionym, the makers of Nymi, just wrapped up a worldwide contest asking developers what application they would create if they were given access to a developer unit.

From the seventy-two submissions Bionym received, three winners were selected based on their wide range of potential uses. All winners will receive an engraved Nymi developer unit this Spring to help make their idea a reality.

Here’s the winning ideas:

The Stress Manager: Described as the “anti-Fitbit”, this app would encourage users to slow down and be still rather than motivate them to be active. The app would use Nymi’s heartbeat identification to teach users to relax and meditate by slowing their heart rate down.

The Smart Home: Using the Nymi’s identity feature, this app would control the smart things in your house based on your proximity. Imagine lights in the basement turning off automatically when you walk upstairs, or your HVAC system heating/cooling the room that you’re located in, not your entire house.

The Digital Butler: The developer behind Cyman, a live Android app inspired by Iron Man’s JARVIS assistant, wants to use Nymi to automatically authenticate you and start taking your commands This voice controlled digital butler would help you organize your day, set tasks, control alarms and more.

Bionym told us that these apps are just the beginning. They’ll be announcing other partnerships and applications in fitness tracking, password management, payments, and games later this year.
