‘3D’ Gorilla Glass coming this year

Corning has announced an exciting new development to the ubiquitous Gorilla Glass found on most modern smartphones. Citing a new 3D glass-forming technology, Corning says it will have glass in “dramatic form factors” commercially available in 2014.

The obvious application for the 3D-shaped Gorilla Glass lies in the coming wave of curved smartphones, which will be able to bend and twist even farther without a loss in strength or a gain in thickness. Corning also indicated that the 3D-shaped Gorilla Glass will be particularly useful in the development of durable and lightweight wearable technology.

Corning slid the announcement out just before CES, so here’s hoping we’ll see a few devices taking advantage of the new Gorilla Glass next week.
