Kickstarter says three million people pledged $480 million in 2013

Popular crowdfunding site Kickstarter announced its 2013 year-in-review today, and the results are very good. Over three million people pledged $480 million to various Kickstarter projects, from technology to fashion to books. We’ve covered many of the main attractions, like Pebble, Ouya and Toronto-based Atlas’ human-powered helicopter. Kickstarter noted that the number works out to $1,315,520 pledged a day, or $913 per minute.

The three million backers were spread out over 214 countries and territories and across all seven continents, including Antarctica. The specific country breakdowns are missing, but Canadians did have an impact on the 2013 results.

Kickstarter opened projects from Canada-based creators back in September. After the first month, the company reported 301 projects launched, with 47,213 backers who contributed $3,266,682 ($75.61 per minute). Taking a look at the Kickstarter Canada site now shows a total of 1,495 projects.
