Rogers and Telus begin rolling out Lumia Black update for the Lumia 1020

Nokia has begun rolling out one of the most anticipated updates to the Lumia ecosystem since the launch of Windows Phone 8 in November, 2012.

The OEM has taken the minor improvements found in Windows Phone 8’s more generalized GDR3 update and added substantial user-facing improvements, including the addition of folders on the home screen; an improved Glance Screen that adds denser information and the option to colourize it; Bluetooth LE support for fitness accessories and other wearables; much better imaging, “especially in Lumia 1020,” which is hard to believe; and, from GDR3, a driving mode and improved multitasking.

Nokia is also bundling several new apps with the Lumia Black update, including a better Nokia Camera app, Nokia Storyteller and Nokia Beamer, which makes sharing content easy from your device.

The rollout is beginning in Canada with the Rogers and Telus Lumia 1020, and is “Waiting for approval” for the Lumia 520, Lumia 620 and Lumia 920.
