HP Chromebook 11 in stock on Google Play for $299

After a hasty recall for a defective AC adapter, the HP Chromebook 11 is back on sale on the Google Play Store in Canada.

The $299 laptop doesn’t exactly slot into the usual mobile beat we cover, but it’s such a great little computer that we had to mention it. The price, too, is quite attractive for users that don’t need all the bells and whistles of a Windows- or OS X-based laptop.

Chrome OS has also made big strides in recent years, adding native photo editing and offline support for Google Docs and Gmail. While the majority of functions are optimized for the internet, it’s no longer the case that a Chromebook is barely usable without a WiFi signal.

This particular laptop, the HP Chromebook 11, is fairly well-constructed for the price, and comes with racing stripes in one of four colours: blue, red, yellow, and green. There’s also a black version available. The 11.6-inch IPS display has a 1366×768 resolution, which isn’t great, but suffices for most use cases. The ARM-based processor is a dual-core Samsung Exynos 5250 chip, based on the Cortex-A15 architecture, and there is 2GB of DDR2 RAM and 16GB of internal storage onboard. In other words, this is far more suited to “tablet” functions than core laptop use cases, but its clicky keyboard and touchpad make it a good productivity machine.

The 2.3 lbs Chromebook 11 comes with two USB 2.0 ports and is chargeable via microUSB, which is a bonus. The 30Whr battery is rated for 6 hours.

Anyone biting?
