BlackBerry ‘Jakarta’ expected to be shown off at Mobile World Congress

BlackBerry could finally be ready to unveil another BlackBerry 10 powered device soon. While the “Jakarta” is only expected to hit emerging markets this April or May, rumours of an official announcement are making the rounds that the Waterloo-based company will show off its latest device at the upcoming Mobile World Congress next month.

According to a post on Focus Taiwan, Terry Gou of Foxconn’s Hon Hai Precision, stated that “We are working with them to design a new device, and we will showcase multiple devices at the trade show in Barcelona in February.”

It’s known that Jakarta will be an entry-level touchscreen-only BB10 device with 3G connectivity, but other devices that Gou speaks of are unknown. Possibly a QWERTY-Touch will be also be on display. As for higher end devices coming to North America, a previous report indicated that BlackBerry Ontario and Windermere early this year, but no word on specs or prices.
