Pebble debuts beta Android app with appstore support, acknowledges a few issues

Just like that, Pebble has released a beta version of its updated Android app with appstore support. Promised during the release of its 2.0 iOS app yesterday, overwhelming demand (and a need for a wider audience of testers, likely) lead to the outing, which is currently in its eighth beta.

Pebble’s Android app performs the same functions as its iOS counterpart, allowing users to access the 1,000 apps currently available, along with hundreds of watchfaces, in a sleek new interface. The company acknowledges that the current beta has a few showstopping bugs, pairing with the smartwatch being one of them. Indeed, I couldn’t find a way to make the app communicate with my Pebble even after pairing the two manually in the Android settings.

There are a few other bugs the team is working on, so if you plan to download and use the new Android app, please submit bug reports. Also check out our hands-on with the Pebble Steel and Pebble appstore.
