Twitter experimenting with Mute without unfollowing feature

Twitter’s constant public experimentation with new features is commendable if a little frustrating – you never know when a new feature will pop up or or when it will disappear. The most recent feature the company has surreptitiously dropped into Twitter is the ability to mute an account without unfollowing. This can be particularly helpful when you want to keep following an account, but are currently being inundated with tweets that don’t interest you, such as live tweeting during a sporting event or – SPOILERS – the most recent episode of Game of Thrones.

The mute feature can be found in the option menu on a user’s Profile page. Muting will still allow notifications and direct messages through, but unfortunately there’s no way unmute at a specified time, a handy feature in third party Twitter clients like Tweetbot and Tweetdeck.

The mute feature isn’t appearing for everyone, so let us know if you can see it, or if there are any other recent Twitter experiments that have caught your eye.
