LG will announce new G Pads in 7-, 8- and 10.1-inch varieties this week

LG announced today that it will announce three new tablets this week.

The company said in a press release today, without divulging so much as a spec sheet, it will show off three new members of its G Pad family at the MedPI conference tomorrow.

LG knows that to compete against the Samsung behemoth it has to act in kind, so the tablet sizes will follow similar Galaxy Tab-like progression: 7-inch, 8-inch and 10.1-inch.

Last year, LG returned to the tablet market with the well-received, if not slightly-pedestrian G Pad 8.3, and with the upcoming launch of the G3 smartphone the company is looking to make more inroads into the Android market.

Strangely, LG’s CEO, Dr. Jong-seok Park, said in a statement, “Unlike smartphones, tablets are not one size fits all. So we designed the G Pad Series for a diverse target audience, some who prioritize portability while others want the best multimedia experience possible. G Pad delivers on all counts.” Since when are smartphones one size fits all?

The new G Pads will offer QPair 2.0, a new version of the software that allows users to receive phone calls and answer texts on their tablets, along with Knock Code and other LG-specific software enhancements.

No word on whether the new Pads will come to Canada, but we’re expecting at least one of the new sizes to be made available.
