eBay announced today that its millions of users should immediately reset their password.
The popular online marketplace stated in a press release the reason was caused by “a cyberattack that compromised a database containing encrypted passwords and other non-financial data.” eBay noted that they conducted several tests and confirmed that there was no evidence that the hackers claimed your financial or credit card information.
Apparently the breach happened between late February and early March and was access by “a small number of employee log-in credentials” where they then gained access to the database, which stored customers’ name, encrypted password, email address, physical address, phone number and date of birth.
eBay suggests all users reset their passwords and to cover themselves they’ll be sending out notifications via email, its website, and social channels as a reminder. “We know our customers trust us with their information, and we take seriously our commitment to maintaining a safe, secure and trusted global marketplace.”
