Minuum keyboard’s Will Walmsley wins University of Toronto’s Inventor of the Year award

According to a tweet from the Whirlscape Twitter account, it appears as though Minuum keyboard inventor Will Walmsley has just received an Inventor of the Year award from the University of Toronto. To qualify for the award, entrants and their teams must be faculty members or trainees who disclosed their inventions to U of T’s Innovations and Partnerships Office within the past five years. Whirlscape, the company behind Minuum, was co-founded by Walmsley, a U of T alumnus, and Khai Truong, an Associate Professor in U of T’s Department of Computer Science.

For those not familiar, Minuum is a ridiculously cool one-dimensional keyboard that aims to be the input method of choice for smartphones and smart watches with limited screen real estate. Whirlscape recently expanded further into the wearables space by porting the Minuum keyboard to Google Glass.
