LG’s own Dutch site reveals full G3 specs prior to launch, confirms “lightweight metal housing”

LG either hasn’t had much success suppressing leaks of its upcoming G3 flagship, or, more likely, has worked the free publicity into its own marketing scheme.

Today, however, the company’s own Dutch division posted the product’s entire spec sheet a day before the official announcement, revealing a “lightweight metal housing” and something called Smart Notice, a feature that likely overhauls Android’s notification shade to suit LG’s custom skin.

The leak reveals that the 5.5-inch device has dimensions of 146.3×74.6×9.1mm, compared to 138.5 x 70.9 x 8.9 mm of its predecessor. The company recently released a teaser claiming that “you just might forget you’re holding a 5.5-inch smartphone,” and it appears that despite its size the G3 is considerably more compact than the Galaxy Note II, which has the same screen size.

The 5.1-inch Galaxy S5, for example, is 142 x 72.5 x 8.1 mm, so the G3 is only slightly taller, wider and thicker than its Samsung counterpart.

It also looks like the G3 will indeed be made of metal; speculation has vacillated between a removable metal backing or a self-healing metal-like plastic akin to that of the G Flex.

One thing to note is that it appears the G3 conforms more readily to Android’s on-screen navigation button guidelines, eschewing the virtual menu button in favour of a multitasking button. The interface also looks considerably better — flatter and more intuitive — than that of the G2.

We’ll know everything and more tomorrow when the device is officially launched in New York City. Stay tuned!
