Nuance reportedly in discussions to sell to Samsung, others

Deep within smartphones and tablets, even automobiles, is speech recognition software powered by Nuance. Users will find its voice-powered tech in Android and as a “fundamental provider” to Apple’s Siri. According to a report in the Wall Street Journal, people “familiar with the matter” have stated that Nuance has held early discussions with Samsung, various private-equity firms and others about a possible sale of the company.

Apart from mobile devices, many manufacturers are tapping into the health trend, releasing products that will track your every move, such as Apple’s HealthKit and Samsung’s Samiband. The mobile space is Nuance Communications’ secondary business, with health being its primary source of revenue by digitizing patient records.

There’s no indication of how far into talks the company is with Samsung. Nuance recorded revenues of $1.86 billion last year.
