Samsung tipped to unveil its Android Wear smartwatch at Google I/O next week

When Google announced Android Wear, its dedicated OS for wearables, it listed “Asus, HTC, LG, Motorola and Samsung; chip makers Broadcom, Imagination, Intel, Mediatek and Qualcomm; and fashion brands like the Fossil Group” as manufacturing partners. Motorola has unveiled the Moto 360 and LG has shown off the G Watch from every angle. Rumours have also surfaced that HTC will come to market with its Android Wear product, currently known as the HTC One Watch, sometime late August.

According to the latest report from CNET, Samsung is on deck to officially announce its newest smartwatch at Google I/O next week. The name of the device is unknown, probably Samsung Wear, but it’ll run Android Wear and reportedly be similar in design to the Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo. “Samsung has been working on an Android Wear smartwatch that uses Samsung’s own chips, as well as another model built off of processors from Qualcomm,” said the report.

As expected, Samsung declined to comment on the rumour of announcing its Android Wear device at Google I/O, but stated it’s “committed to relentless innovation and new products are always in development.” LG and Motorola are also expected to give the grand unveiling of their smartwatches at Google I/O.
