July is Cellphone Courtesy Month, TELUS launches ‘Keep it on your pants’ campaign

Over the years there has been several ways for people to show their cellphone etiquette. Much of this involves being concious of your surroundings and ensuring you don’t disturb those around you. For example, turning your phone to vibrate mode when in public areas, becoming a soft talker on the train, or actually having a meal and speaking with the person rather than staring at the phone.

TELUS has come out with the “Keep it on your pants” campaign that encourages Canadians to keep the device in their pocket. TELUS admits they “feel somewhat responsible for the current state of affairs when it comes to cellphone courtesy – after all, we’re enablers, right?” The company notes that “Admitting to your smartphone etiquette sins is only half the battle. As the friendly carrier, we want to help Canadians keep it in their pants and resist the temptation of using their device in the wrong place at the wrong time”

To accomplish this they have dreamed up “The Pantifesto,” which is 10 tips to help you get back into the “good books” of cellphone use. Next year we’ll have to see if TELUS comes out with a separate Pantifesto for wearable devices that includes etiquette for Google Glass and all the smartwatches.
