Microsoft announces affordable Lumia 830 with Snapdragon 400 and PureView

Microsoft’s PureView technology has been a high-end feature up until now, but it looks like the company is eager to bring PureView to the masses. The company today announced its first mid-range smartphone with PureView, the Lumia 830.

The Lumia 830 was unveiled during Microsoft’s Lumia event in Europe earlier today and boasts a 5-inch ClearBlack 720p display, a 1.2 GHz Snapdragon 400 chipset, 16 GB of storage (expandable to 128 GB via MicroSD), and that all important PureView camera with a 10MP sensor as well as Optical Image Stablization, LED flash, and ZEISS optics.

The phone ships with Windows Phone 8.1 and will come pre-loaded with the newly announced Denim update. Pricing for the Lumia 830 is set at around €330 before tax, so it’s not wildly cheap (especially when you convert the price to dollars) but definitely on the lower end of the scale as far as smartphones go. It will go on sale in Europe later this month.
