Montreal Metro cell service now live in five stations

A few weeks ago, testing was started on the Green Line, specifically around the McGill and Guy-Concordia stations. According to sources, “the first sectors covering 5 metro stations of the green line and their connecting tunnels are now in service, allowing continuous coverage between Saint-Laurent and Guy-Concordia! This is part of a joint venture between Rogers, Videotron, TELUS and Bell to provide HSPA and LTE coverage in the Montreal Metro System.”

The five stations that have connectivity (HSPA 1900 MHz x 2 carriers + LTE 2100 MHz x 1 carrier) are: Saint-Laurent, Place-des-Arts, McGill, Peel and Guy-Concordia.

LTE connectivity on the STM will enable the 900,000 daily riders to use wireless devices underground, bringing the same functionality as users would receive on the ground. The larger plan is to bring wireless service to 68 subway stations in Montreal by 2021.
