Google sends first round of invitations for new Inbox email app

Inbox

Earlier this week, Google launched a brand new email app, Inbox, designed to make email in general less overwhelming. Unfortunately, the app wasn’t immediately available to any and all that wanted to use it. Instead, Google invited interested parties to register interest via email. These people, Google said, would be sent an invite once they became available.

The good news is that those who registered already are receiving invites. Users around the web are reporting that invites are coming in, and the folks over at AndroidandMe have received theirs, too. Google said earlier this week that new users would be able to invite their friends, though we haven’t seen that functionality yet, and users on Twitter seem to be in the same boat. You can email inbox@google.com to get an invitation as soon as more become available.

Available for iOS and Android, Inbox takes the traditional inbox and adds several organizational features designed to make responding and interacting with your mail less labour intensive.

Users can “pin” emails for action alter on, swipe emails to done (archive) or snooze messages and reminders they’re too busy to attend to. Promotions, social communications, and purchases are all bundled together (you can move individual emails around in the event Gmail incorrectly categorizes a message). There are readymade labels to start with but users can add their own labels as well.
