Yahoo adds travel and event notifications to iOS and Android apps

The arrival of Marissa Mayer at Yahoo has seen the company evolve into what the CEO calls ‘a mobile first company.’ Indeed, many of Mayer’s acquisitions since she stepped into the role have been mobile companies.

This week, the company is breathing a breath of travel-friendly fresh air into its Yahoo Mail application. Yahoo recently blogged about updates to both the iOS and Android versions of its app for users in the United States. This update revolves around the ‘Today’ section, which displays flight information, events, and easy access to directions to the airport. You’ll also be sent restaurant suggestions and local attractions relevant to your location. These will be accompanied by reviews from Yelp.

This update it U.S.-only for now but we’ve seen Yahoo roll out updates to U.S. users ahead of a Canadian release at a later date in the past (remember the company’s revamped news app?). We’ve reached out to Yahoo Canada for information on a Canadian roll-out for these features.
